Graphing Calculators: Overview
There are three major players in the graphing calculator market: Casio, HP, and
Texas Instruments.

Casio. For educational use, mainly in high school and junior college, Casio
offers the
FX 9750
and
CFX 9850
models. Both are easy to use. For more advanced mathematical and programming
applications, the company offers the
FX 2.0 model, which has a Computer Algebra System (CAS).

Hewlett Packard. Hewlett Packard serves educational and professional users. The
HP 39
series is sold in high school/college markets; the
HP 48
series, in science/engineering markets; and the
HP 49
series, in both educational and professional markets. The HP 49 series includes
a CAS. Some users reported keyboard problems with the HP 48 and 49.

Texas Instruments. Texas Instruments covers all markets. For students 10 to 14
years old, it offers the
TI 73
;
for statistics, the
TI 83
and
TI 84
series; for calculus, the
TI 86
and
TI 89
series, as well as the
Voyage 200 .
The TI 89 has a CAS, and the Voyage 200 has a keyboard.
Texas Instruments is the 900 pound gorilla. It owns over 90% of the graphing
calculator market.
